In the Summer of 2008 my friend Chet Cahill was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He died on January 16th, 2009. Chet's wife, Billie Best, asked me to photograph Chet on his last day and in the days following his death. Chet stayed at home up until driving him to his cremation. The resulting images have been collected into a book, Dying Beautifully, and are part of a live performance, The Widow Wears Red Pajamas, both by Billie Best. These works explore the challenging, poingnant, provacative, and sometimes funny story of Chet's conscious death. Dying Beautifully is available at dyingbeautifully.org.
