For 20 years I have been making still photographs (and more recently also moving pictures) of things that matter to me. I began during my last years in college, living in my truck and photographing adventure sports like rock climbing, kayaking, and cycling for editorial and commercial clients. Spending all that time traveling, outside, and with passionate people who cared about the places where they played and the people they played with, soon evolved into a focus on social and environmental issues as well. Since then I have traveled the world and made thousands of images for hundreds of magazine articles, dozens of books, countless websites, a handful of exhibitions, and many worthy NGO, non-profit, and mission driven for-profit clients. My film projects have shown across the country in film festivals and at thematic events such Mountainfilm, Adventure Film Festival, and the Bioneers Conference.
In addition to creating my own work I have also worked to help others get their work out. I have worked as Picture Editor for Orion magazine, co-editor of Fraction J magazine, an advisory board member for Blue Earth Alliance, and regularly serve as a portfolio reviewer, curator, presenter, guest editor, and general advocate for photography for organizations like Fotofest, Center, PhotoAlliance, Light Work, PhotoNOLA, ICP, PhotoLucida, powerHouse, and many others. I have presented on my own work and its relationship to bigger ideas like ‘Concerned Photography’ and ‘Art & Activism’ for venues including Yale University, Harvard University, Williams College, Duke University, The New Mexico Museum of Art, The Nevada Museum of Art, and, again, many others.
And what am I up to now?
My primary focus is on getting a new Brand Storytelling firm off the ground.
