In 2009 I traveled to Indonesian Borneo on assignment for Rare. I was traveling with writer William deBuys and our task was to profile the social and environmental landscape in and around the Lamandau River Wildlife Reserve. One of the projects to come out of this trip was our People of the Forest portrait project, a series of 14 portraits, each with a deep caption offering a slice of the subject’s life that places them in the complex dynamic that is tropical forest conservation.
The images will be on display at Harvard’s Three Columns Gallery at 10 Cowperthwaite St (Mather House), Cambridge, MA 02138 from Nov. 16th through Feb. 15th from 9am-7pm daily with an opening reception and artist talk Nov 16th at 5pm. There will also be a gallery reception with the artist Dec 2 from 5:30-7:00pm. If you’re in the area, please visit.
And stay tuned for more venues.
Has People of the Forest become a traveling exhibition that we could host at The Wildlife Experience? If so, I would love to hear more about how we could bring Jason Houston’s photos and William deBuys’ stories to our audience. Thanks, Connie Mohrman, Exhibits Mgr.
